Frequently Asked Questions About EMDR Training
The frequency of sessions varies based on the nature of the issue and the client's history. Studies consistently show that approximately three sessions can effectively process a single traumatic event for most individuals. The extent of EMDR needed depends on the complexity of the individual's history.
Like any psychotherapy, temporary increases in distress may temporarily occur during EMDR therapy. Distressing memories may surface, and unexpected reactions, including heightened emotions or physical sensations, may arise during sessions. Additionally, the processing of incidents may continue post-treatment, bringing forth other memories, feelings, or dreams. This is all part of the mind’s natural healing process.
