Brain Wave Assessments

What is a Brain Wave Assessment?

A Brain Wave Assessment, or Brain Wave Map, quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG), is a visual representation of the electrical activity in the brain. It is created by measuring the electrical patterns (brainwaves) produced by the neurons in the brain.

This information can help in creating a customized wellness plan for conditions that do not respond to standard treatments or for individuals seeking alternatives to medication.

qEEG Brain Mapping Identifies Your Unique Brain Wave Patterns.

What Health Conditions Would Benefit from a Brain Map?

The purpose of creating a brain map is to provide a clear picture of brain wave functioning and highlight any abnormal patterns or imbalances. This information is used to create your custom brain training protocol for neurofeedback therapy and can help us in our clinical assessments.

If you experience any of the symptoms below, a Brain Wave Assessment may help identify the underlying issue and assist you in regaining your health.

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Anxiety
  • Attention/Focus Issues
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Brain Fog
  • Concussion Symptoms
  • Depression
  • Learning Delay/Disability
  • Migraines
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Sleep Issues
  • Speech
  • Trauma/PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Why Brain Mapping and Brain Wave Assessments are so Powerful

Tailored Plans

In the context of neurofeedback therapy, a brain map serves as a baseline assessment, helping us tailor a brain wave wellness plan for each individual.

Insights

The brain map gives us insights into areas of the brain that are of concern and may benefit from training, which often results in improved emotional health, better focus, and a resolution to common issues such as depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, mood issues, etc.

What Happens During a Brain Mapping Session?

During a brain mapping session, a headset is placed onto your head, over your hair. There are 19 small sensors in the headset that record data for approximately 20 - 30 minutes. Brain waves are recorded with eyes open and closed.

Sophisticated Mechanics and Electronics

The Brain Wave Center uses a wireless headset, without the use of gel, to record brain waves. The headset will fit most people from ages 4 and up. Our headset design is the most accurate data-rich gel-free EEG system used by both researchers and practitioners.

Our gel-free electrodes are backed by sophisticated mechanics and electronics. Our headset is designed through rigorous internal testing and validation to international standards, which is why researchers around the world use this brain wave recording system in independent, peer reviewed publications.

What Happens After a Brain Mapping Session?

The resulting data from your brain mapping session is analyzed by a certified qEEG-D analyst to identify patterns of brain wave frequencies in different regions of the brain.

These frequencies include:

  • Delta waves
  • Theta waves
  • Alpha waves
  • Beta waves
  • High beta waves

Who is analyzing my Brain Wave Assessment?

Jared Neubrander M.S. QEEG D

Jared Neubrander – Director qEEG Analysis

Jared is a board-certified diplomate in quantitative EEG analytics and has been passionately working in the field of qEEG and neurotherapy since 2008. He had the distinct pleasure of being mentored by the world leaders in the discipline of neurotherapy and have successfully stewarded clinics working with diverse populations such as Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, Professional Athletes, Mental Health, and Substance Use Disorders. The Brain Mapping Process

1

Turn off Electronics

We will ask that you turn off your cell phone and/or smart watch or place it in airplane mode.

2

Remove Accessories

Take out any hair ties, braids, clips, etc. and remove earrings.

3

Headset Placement

We place a headset over your head, ear clips on both ears, and a sticky sensor (EKG pad) under your left collar bone to measure your heart rate.

4

Recording Brain Waves

We record with your eyes open and with your eyes closed for about 20-30 minutes total. If at any point during the recording process is interrupted by movement, talking, or irritability, we may take a longer or second recording.

5

Complete Survey

You (or a parent/guardian) will complete one or more surveys. This helps us in your analysis and gives us a guide if you start therapy or treatment with us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Brain Wave Assessments

You will be scheduled for a 30-minute Brain Wave Assessment Review with our Medical Director, Dr. Stephen Feig, approximately 1 – 5 business days after your Brain Wave Assessment takes place. This allows us the necessary time to analyze and develop a wellness plan, if appropriate.

We strongly encourage clients to have their spouse or friend/family member at the review, especially if they participate in the decision-making process for addressing emotional health issues.

*Additional reviews and/or written interpretations will be charged an additional fee.

You can schedule a Functional Medicine Consultation with Dr. Stephen Feig. This is an in-depth consultation where he will review your symptoms, health concerns, recent laboratory test results, and/or explore a more comprehensive approach to your healing.

  • Children 3 years or younger or if your head circumference is smaller than 52 centimeters or larger than 62 centimeters.
  • Individuals that are not able to remain in a seated, calm position for at least 5 minutes.
  • If you have experienced a concussion, head trauma, or had a traumatic brain injury in the last 30 days, you may need to wait a few weeks to be a candidate.
  • Certain medical conditions such as metallic implants or being in a coma.
  • If you currently wear a wig, hair piece, or anything that prevents access to your scalp.
  • Frequent changes in psychiatric medication
  • If you need emergency medical care

Things To Avoid

  • Excess amounts of caffeine day of appointment
  • Recreational drugs, alcohol, and THC containing products for 24 hours prior to the appointment.

Some medications can impact brain wave patterns, individuals may need to consult with The Brain Wave Center first to determine if you are a candidate.

Choose a day and time that you think your child has the best attention span and ability to listen to directions. If this means pulling them out of school, we can provide a school note.

We find it helpful when a child can sit on a parent/guardian’s lap, bring in their favorite stuffed animal, toy, or a weighted blanket to keep them calm.

If this is your first time with us, if you are uncomfortable discussing detailed health information in front of your child, please bring a friend or family member that can stay with them while you are in the consultation with our doctor.
